How scoring works / how long it takes
How is my Writing and Speaking scored?
Your Writing and Speaking submissions are graded by AI aligned to the Cambridge IELTS band descriptors. You get an overall band plus criterion-level feedback (Task Achievement, Coherence, Lexical Resource, Grammar for Writing; Fluency, Lexical Resource, Grammar, Pronunciation for Speaking).
Listening and Reading are graded automatically from the answer key and converted to a band score using the standard raw-score conversion table.
How long does it take to get my Writing or Speaking result?
The analysis itself usually finishes in under 30 seconds. Allow a few minutes end to end: during busy periods your submission waits in a queue first, and Speaking takes longer than Writing because your audio has to be transcribed.
If your result still is not showing after that, it usually means one of these:
- The attempt was not submitted — reopen the test and check it is marked as completed.
- Grading is still queued during a busy period. The result page refreshes on its own.
- Grading failed and is being retried automatically (up to two retries).
If it has been much longer than expected, post in Q&A and we will look up your attempt directly.
Where do I find my results and feedback?
Go to **My page → Tests**, or open the test you took and choose *View result*.
Each completed attempt shows the overall band, a section breakdown, and — for Writing and Speaking — the AI feedback with annotations on your own answer.
Can I see the audio script for the Listening test?
Yes. Open the result page for your attempt and choose *Review & Explanation*. Each Listening item shows the relevant part of the transcript together with the correct answer, so you can see exactly where the answer came from.
Why did my overall band change after Writing and Speaking were scored?
Your overall band is the average of the skills that have been scored, rounded to the nearest 0.5.
Writing and Speaking are scored in the background, so immediately after submitting, your overall band reflects only the parts already marked. When the AI results arrive they join the average and the overall band moves. That is expected behaviour, not an error.
Within Writing, Task 2 counts twice as much as Task 1, and your Writing band is only final once both tasks are scored.

How the service works
Why is my full mock test locked?
On an adaptive plan, mock tests open one round at a time.
1. Complete at least one practice section in each of Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking — that unlocks your first mock test.
2. Your result identifies your weakest skills.
3. Complete more practice sections in those skills, and the next round unlocks.
Each round is assembled for you at your current band from passages you have not seen, which is why they cannot all be opened at once. Mock tests you have already finished stay open for review, the level test is never locked, and a Mock Test Pack you bought separately opens its exams immediately.

How does GIO decide what I should practise next?
Every item available to you is scored and the highest scoring ones become your daily picks.
The biggest factor is weakness — the skills where your accuracy is lowest come first. After that comes difficulty fit (material near your target band), then variety (so you are not given the same task type repeatedly). Speaking topics from the current IELTS topic rotation get a small bonus, and anything you have already worked through is pushed down the list rather than hidden.
The ranking is recalculated after each item you finish, so it follows your latest results instead of a fixed queue.

Something went wrong during a test
My microphone is not recording during the Speaking test
Work through these in order:
1. Check the browser has microphone permission for this site — look for the microphone icon in the address bar.
2. Close other apps that may hold the microphone (video calls, voice recorders).
3. Use Chrome, Edge or Safari on a recent version. Some in-app browsers block recording entirely.
4. Run the microphone check on the Speaking intro screen before starting.
If recording still fails, post in Q&A. We already collect your browser, OS and device automatically, so just tell us which test and part it happened on.
The questions are not showing on my screen
This is usually a loading problem rather than missing content:
1. Refresh the page — your answers so far are saved automatically.
2. Turn off ad blockers and content blockers for this site.
3. Try a different browser or a larger screen; some question types need more width.
If a specific part is genuinely blank, post in Q&A with the test name and item numbers and a screenshot. That is enough for us to reproduce it.
I cannot submit my test / it says something went wrong
Your answers are saved as you go, so a failed submit does not normally lose your work.
1. Check your connection and press submit again.
2. If you were signed out mid-test, sign back in and reopen the test — it resumes where you left off.
3. Avoid closing the tab while the submit is in progress.
If submit keeps failing, post in Q&A with the test name. Do not start the test again from scratch — we can usually recover the attempt.
How is a test timed, and what happens if I get disconnected?
Timings follow computer-delivered IELTS: Listening includes review time, Reading runs as one block, Writing Task 1 and Task 2 share a single budget as in the real exam, and Speaking runs preparation then recording per question.
The clock only runs while you are in that part — moving to another skill pauses it rather than letting it drain in the background.
Your answers and remaining time are saved continuously in your browser, and signed-in members also checkpoint to the server, so reopening the test restores where you were. Speaking recordings that already uploaded are restored too.

A question or answer key looks wrong
I think an answer key is wrong. How do I report it?
Please do report it — corrections from users are how the question bank improves.
Post in Q&A with the test name, the part, the item number, and why you think the key is wrong (for example an alternative answer that should also be accepted). Our content team checks each report and, when the key is wrong, updates it and adds the accepted alternatives.
I cannot sign in
How do I reset my password?
Use the *Forgot password?* link on the sign-in page and follow the email we send you.
If the email does not arrive, check your spam folder first. If you are not sure which address you signed up with, post in Q&A with any address you might have used and we will check.
Why do I need to verify my email?
Email verification protects your account and is required before you can purchase. After signing up you get a verification link that stays valid for 48 hours.
If it expired, sign in and use the *Resend verification email* button on the notice page.
What can I do without an account?
You can browse, take the level test and try a test as a guest, including a limited number of AI scoring runs. The limit is counted per account and per device, so creating another account on the same browser does not reset it.
Guest results are temporary — they are kept only long enough for Writing and Speaking feedback to finish, then removed. If you want to keep a result, create an account before you take the test.
Verifying your email is required before buying a plan, claiming a free plan, or topping up credits.
Full details are in the GIO guide, at /guide#account
Account deletion / privacy
How can I delete my account?
Post a deletion request in Q&A from the account you want removed, or email us from its registered address. We confirm the request with you before deleting, because deletion also removes your test attempts and results and cannot be undone.
What we keep afterwards, and for how long, is set out in our Privacy Policy.
Payment, credits or refund
What do AI credits pay for?
Credits pay for AI analysis of Writing and Speaking only — one credit per analysis. A full mock test with Writing Task 1, Task 2 and Speaking therefore uses three, and asking for a re-score is a new analysis that costs another credit. You can re-score the same part up to twice.
Everything else is free: practice questions, answer keys and audio scripts, Listening and Reading marking, sitting a mock test, and video lessons.
Plans come with credits included, and you can top up at any time from My page › AI Credits. Credits do not expire and are not withdrawn when a plan's access period ends.
Full details are in the GIO guide, at /guide#credits
I ran out of credits before my result was scored. Did I lose my answer?
No. Any part that could not be scored is kept with your answer or recording intact and marked as awaiting credits.
Top up from My page › AI Credits and use Re-score with AI on the result page; that part is scored from what you already submitted. You do not retake anything.
Full details are in the GIO guide, at /guide#credits
When does my access start, and what happens when it expires?
Access starts when the payment completes and runs for the number of days shown on the plan.
If you buy a second adaptive plan while one is still running, the new one does not overwrite it — it is queued and starts the moment the current one ends, so no paid time is lost.
When a plan expires, your history stays readable in My page: past results, feedback, scores and bookmarks. What stops is access to the plan's content and new recommendations. Renewing restores the hub and continues from your existing band history.

Request more tests or a new feature
Will you add more practice tests?
Yes — new tests are added to the question bank regularly, and we log every request for specific skills or question types.
If there is a particular part or question type you want more of, say so in Q&A. Requests with a clear target are the ones that get built first.
Still stuck?
Post your question in Q&A. We reply within 1 business day, and useful answers get added to this page.
